New complaint number to get unwanted mobile VAS deactivated

Telecom consumers can now register complaint about wrongful activation of value added services (VAS) like mobile internet and caller tunes on a new common number, 155223, for all operators.

Telecom operators will have to refund the amount charged for such activation of services if consumers inform about it within 24 hours on this common number.

The service has been put in place by telecom operators jointly after telecom regulator Trai refused to give them any leeway in such cases from February 2. Operators reported compliance to TRAI on February 1.

In 2012 all the Indian telecom mobile operators revised the tariffs including GPRS packs as, BSNL reduced 2G data usage of from 2GB to 1.25GB on STV98, Uninor reduced day usage from 6GB to 3GB on STV90, Tata Docomo reduced from 6GB to 4GB on STV98(previously STV95), Airtel, Vodafone and Idea 1GB at STV98 and Aircel has withdrawn unlimited packs.

  • 650 MB for 21 days (earlier 1GB for 30 days) is Rs 95-99. 
  • 1 GB for 30 days is Rs 123-126.
  • 1.25 GB for 30 days (earlier 1.5GB or 30 days) is Rs 145-149.
  • 2 GB + Unlimited @ 40kbps for 30 days (Earlier this pack priced at Rs 149) is Rs 198.

But the caller will hear a voice message saying that you can set the song as your ring back tune by pressing * 9. Normally this message will take some. The called party may answer the call without the calling party start listening to the song or music during that message. So what is the use of paying for setting the ring back tunes? 

There is a solution to this problem. Compose a SMS having the following text

How to check the usage of Broadband in BSNL?

For any Broadband plan in BSNL we can check the usage at any time. Normally for limited plans, the usage must be checked periodically. Because beyond the free limit, one have to pay additional charge for the excess bandwidth used.

one of the following methods may be used to check the broad band bandwidth usage .

1. Register your land line phone in http://www.selfcare.sdc.bsnl.co.in. For registration, keep your latest land line phone invoice with you. You have to provide the customer ID during registration. The customer ID will normally available at the top right portion of the telephone invoice.

2. Alternatively you can send one SMS and get the bandwidth usage details.      The  format for sending the SMS is
